Recreating “Christine” for Serge Fiori’s Musical World

In November 2019, Samuel Sauvageau offered me an assignment for En direct de l’univers: adapting the aesthetic of Christine and the Queens’ “Christine” music video to the show’s set for Serge Fiori’s musical world.
The segment would bring together his partner and three dancers on a set bathed in blue. We were working on an excerpt of about a minute and a half for the show’s screens during a performance of the song. We needed to adapt a strong visual reference to the time and resources available.
My work began with analysing the music video. I prepared a technical shot breakdown, proposed a filming order and lighting directions. Fluid camera movements were part of the intention: the images needed to accompany the choreography and preserve its energy.
Samuel Sauvageau handled staging and Judith Bélanger Bouchard production. Filming was scheduled for November 22, with delivery for the next day’s show. I also contributed to editing, so preparation and postproduction were as much part of the assignment as camera work.
I remember a project connecting music, choreography and images. My enthusiasm was already apparent in the preparation exchanges. Analysing a reference, finding a way to adapt it and working with the team to bring it to life: that’s a rewarding part of this profession I love to share.
