On September 27, 2026, while watching the international broadcast of the elite men’s race at the UCI Road World Championships in Montréal, I recognized images I had filmed over the years for Tourisme Montréal. They appeared in a segment introducing the city and its festivals, in the middle of a day when Montréal was also being told through images of the competition.

There’s something special about encountering your work this way. The shoots already belong to memory, but the images keep travelling. They can return in a new context, reach another audience and find a place you never imagined when filming them.

My contribution lies in those original images of Montréal, filmed for Tourisme Montréal in previous years. This time, I saw them included in a presentation of the city during the event broadcast. The new context gave them another resonance: a lively, welcoming city shaped by culture during a major international sporting event.

Behind the camera, filming Montréal has always been a way for me to pay attention to its energy. Places matter, but so do the people, movements and atmosphere that make you want to stop there. Seeing these images continue to introduce the city reminds me of the value of that attention and how long a filming project can live.

So this memory is very recent, even though the images come from older collaborations. It connects several moments in my journey as an independent filmmaker: days spent filming Montréal, work shared with Tourisme Montréal and the pleasure of recognizing part of that perspective in an international broadcast today.

I take real pride in this reuse: seeing images I helped create continue to introduce people to Montréal.
