Le Safari de Joanie: A Camera Following Nature’s Rhythm

Since 2023, I’ve worked as a camera operator on Le Safari de Joanie shoots, a Trio Orange production broadcast on Télé-Québec. Alongside Joanie Lamoureux and the series’ teams, these expeditions have allowed me to put my camera work in service of a curious look at Québec’s animals.
Among my memories, the expedition in search of the lynx holds a special place. I loved that adventure. The shoots also brought me into a rhythm very different from a set where everything can be prepared in advance: here, we’re on the move to reach the animals, and nature has the final say in what appears before the camera.
It’s a lesson in attention. You have to be ready, observe and find your place in the team while allowing discovery to happen. My role is to contribute images that accompany Joanie and let young viewers share some of that curiosity. Filming living things reminds us that availability and patience matter as much as technique.
The collaboration continued through the days and seasons, with shoots documented through January 2025. Working with a team across several projects adds another depth to the work: we learn to know one another, communicate and move forward together. Those connections also make the days memorable.
For me, Le Safari de Joanie represents a rewarding part of my independent career: joining a production and contributing my presence behind the camera. Every world teaches me something. This one brings me back to a simple idea: before making an image, you have to take time to look. And when an image makes someone want to discover more of the world around them, the work takes on a special meaning.
