In spring 2020, when we met through our screens, I took part in La Commande culturelle, a series hosted by France Beaudoin for Radio-Canada.

Produced with Pamplemousse Média, these videos brought artists and members of the public together around special requests, surprises and shared moments.

I handled directing and postproduction from my home studio. Remote filming meant rethinking how we worked: preparing exchanges, recording encounters and building continuity in the edit between people who weren’t in the same room.

My May 2020 emails bring me back to videos with Marc Hervieux, Boucar Diouf and Marc Séguin. In the follow-up to the Marc Séguin video, the visual edit around the artwork played a particular role. In other encounters, voices, silence or participants’ reactions guided the rhythm. Each video needed to find its form while respecting what had happened during the exchange.

At the end of May, I gathered and delivered the editing projects for archiving. The collaboration also continued with preparing segments requested by Radio-Canada. Graphics and visual adaptations produced by the broadcaster completed this collective work.

For me, this project remains connected to a distinctive period when creative work sought ways to keep people in contact. The enjoyment lives on in the team’s messages, enthusiastic feedback on the edits and encounters we were able to bring to life despite the distance.
