My collaborations with Tourisme Montréal hold a special place in my career. Before working directly with the team, I’d already had the opportunity to film Montréal through various assignments with Sid Lee. As production methods evolved and some projects began to happen directly with Tourisme Montréal, that relationship with the city continued naturally.

I worked in particular with Lynn Habel and Amélie StCyr on several of Tourisme Montréal’s thematic “Moments.” From one project to the next, I found myself exploring Montréal almost from A to Z: Mile End, downtown, nightlife, events, festivals, food, culture, neighbourhoods and all those little moments that give the city its character.

Over the years, I filmed a wealth of images devoted to Montréal’s different facets. Some appeared in videos I edited myself; others were entrusted to different postproduction teams. Whatever the final form, what I loved most was being in the field, looking for ways to tell the city’s story beyond its monuments.

For me, Montréal often lives in the details: a terrace filling up, a street’s energy changing at dusk, a crowd gathered before a stage, light between two buildings, an encounter lasting only a few seconds. Filming the city meant learning to observe those moments and trying to preserve something of them.

These assignments allowed me to discover Montréal from many different angles, sometimes even in places I’d known all my life. Looking back, the images almost form a personal archive of the city over the years. Fragments of Montréal I’ve had the chance to explore, film and, in my own way, tell.
