In Florida with Fabienne Larouche for En direct de l’univers

In December 2019, an assignment forEn direct de l’universgave me one of those moments when I thought this profession really was something special: flying to Florida for barely twenty-four hours to film a segment with Fabienne Larouche.
Fabienne Larouche was one of the major figures of Québec television I had admired for a long time. A producer, screenwriter and creator of several series that shaped our television, she was someone I knew mainly through her work. Suddenly finding myself in Florida with her, camera in hand, creating something together felt quite surreal.
The trip was as fast as it was intense. An express round trip, a shoot, then editing and delivery on an extremely tight schedule. My role ran from camera work to the final version, with the responsibility of returning with everything needed to build the segment and deliver it in time for broadcast.
The segment was eventually presented on December 31 as part of a special episode ofEn direct de l’univers. I had also contributed to other moments on the show, including the famous staged “kidnappings” of certain guests, another improbable facet of this kind of production.
Looking back, this project remains above all connected to an encounter. Some shoots make us think a lot about images, editing, technique or the final result. This one mostly reminds me of the extraordinary opportunities the profession sometimes offers: crossing a border for a few hours, meeting someone you’ve long admired and creating something together.
It’s in moments like this that I realize how far my journey has taken me into situations I could never have imagined when I began making videos.
