In 2020, I took part in filming the second season of Ma petite vie, an Anémone Films production for Canal Vie. The series followed people of short stature in their daily lives, projects and relationships. It was a project where camera work found its full meaning in encounters with the people being filmed.

My contribution involved camera work and gimbal sequences, particularly for introducing participants. With director Anne-Marie Sylvestre, we considered camera movements, slow motion and the rhythm those images could take in the edit. Every choice had to serve the portrait and accompany the person’s presence in front of the lens.

The season brought together Émilie and Marcel, Sylvie, Sandrine and Félix, as well as Daniel. Behind those stories was also a production team, with Fanny Bissonnette in production management, and continuous work between filming and postproduction.

Production days took place between summer and fall 2020. This memory brings me back to that attention to real life: preparing images, staying available for moments that arise and finding the right distance to tell someone’s story respectfully.

I like keeping a record of these collaborations. Beyond the technique and days on set, encounters are what give images their value. Ma petite vie is one of the projects where my independent filmmaking work contributed to human portraits supported by an attentive team.
