A black and orange poster for Le Principe d’Archimède at Théâtre Prospero, from October 29 to November 16, 2019.

In fall 2019, I directed the teaser for Le Principe d’Archimède, a Théâtre à l’eau froide production presented at Théâtre Prospero. The first video versions appear in my October archives, a few weeks before performances from October 29 to November 16.

Josep Maria Miró’s play, adapted by Kariane Héroux-Danis and staged by Christian Fortin, brought together Geneviève Alarie, Daniel D’Amours, Lucien A. Bergeron and Sébastien Rajotte. Its story explores how a rumour can transform perceptions and disrupt lives. For a trailer, such a world poses a stimulating question: how do you make people want to discover the story while preserving the doubts running through it?

What I love about creating theatre teasers is that meeting between two languages. The stage has its space, its time and its relationship with audiences. Video offers a different entry point through framing, rhythm and a sequence of images. My contribution was part of that desire to accompany the show and awaken curiosity.

The collaboration also had a very concrete continuation. On October 29, 2019, Sandra Loué, Prospero’s communications lead, wrote after enjoying the Le Principe d’Archimède teaser and my videos for Création Dans la Chambre. She proposed working on the theatre’s next production: La maladie de la mort.

Looking back, it’s that connection between projects that stands out. A video leads to a conversation, then a new collaboration with another artistic team. Le Principe d’Archimède remains a fond creative memory, but also a step in the development of my theatre-related work.
