My collaboration around Atteintes à sa vie began in early 2020 with Philippe Cyr. The project accompanied his staging of Martin Crimp’s text at Usine C. Initially scheduled for 2020, performances eventually began on April 19, 2022.

I contributed to creating and editing videos introducing the show’s world. The material took several forms: a sequence with Jade on guitar, a video bringing the performers together and words that could open a door to the work. Each proposal needed to find its own way of existing on screen.

I love projects where video accompanies theatre. We aren’t trying to replace the stage, but offer an encounter with what moves through it. A gesture, a fragment of speech or a presence can become the starting point for a short film. Editing gives them a rhythm and a place.

With Philippe, the work developed around that search for form. Our first steps in 2020, then the continuing collaboration, connected a stage creation with its video presentation. These conversations feed my perspective: understanding an artistic intention, listening to what it calls for and finding how to contribute with my tools.

In my independent filmmaking career, these cultural collaborations have a particular value. They let me work alongside another language, pay attention to presence and think about how an image can awaken curiosity before an encounter in the theatre.

I remember Atteintes à sa vie as a project that travelled through time between preparation and performance. My video contribution is part of that journey: accompanying a work, seeking the right form and contributing, in my own way, to its encounter with audiences.
